Funics is a fun, practical early learning class for children aged 2β5, created and delivered by experienced Early Years teachers.
Our sessions help children build the foundations they need for reading, writing and starting school β but without pressure or sitting at tables doing worksheets!
Through stories, songs, movement, sensory play and hands-on activities, children develop their listening and language skills, confidence with sounds and letters, fine and gross motor skills, coordination and the early skills needed for handwriting.
We donβt just focus on phonics. Our unique W.R.I.T.E. Approach recognises that children need strong bodies, hands, language and coordination before writing becomes easy. Activities may include playdough, tweezers, threading, mark making, climbing and movement, stories, games and lots of opportunities to explore.
Each session includes a short teacher-led activity followed by a range of fun activity stations for children to explore with their grown-up.
Funics is about giving children the right foundations at the right time, while keeping learning playful and enjoyable.
Parents and carers stay and join in, so youβll also go home with lots of simple ideas you can use with your child.
Come along for a two-week trial and discover just how much learning can happen through play!

Meet Rachael, Helen and Pam
Funics classes are created and delivered by experienced teachers who are passionate about giving children the very best foundations for learning.
Rachael and Helen β Co-founders of Funics
Rachael and Helen are qualified teachers with over 50 years of combined experience in education, predominantly within Early Years and Key Stage 1. Both continue to work with children in educational settings alongside running Funics.
Together, they have developed the Funics approach, combining their knowledge of early literacy, phonics, child development, movement and early writing skills. They also deliver training to teachers, Early Years practitioners and university students, sharing practical approaches to supporting children's development and school readiness.
Pam β Funics Teacher
Pam runs one of our Friday Funics sessions and is also a qualified teacher. She brings a wealth of classroom experience to the team and is trained in dyslexia, giving her additional insight into the different ways children learn and develop their early literacy skills.
Between us, we believe that young children learn best when they are moving, exploring, talking, playing and having fun. Our aim is for children to leave Funics feeling confident and excited about learning β and for their grown-ups to leave with lots of ideas and reassurance too.
Your child isn't just attending an activity class β they're being supported by experienced educators who understand how young children learn.
