Description

A place for art, crafts and great coffee... we are part of a wider East Durham based not-for-profit organisation (Creative Youth Opportunities CIC) and we aim to bring creativity to children, young people and families. We support other small, independent businesses who deliver or sell with us and have a timetable of creative activities for babies, children, teens and adults...

We also have a small coffee bar offering a range of quality teas, coffees, hot chocolates and snacks.

Our in-house classes are delivered by qualified artists and teachers with lots of experience and a love of the local area.

Michelle Harland

Meet Michelle Harland

I am the founder director, artist, community champion and creative mind behind Creative Youth Opportunities CIC, the Creative Place Seaham and CreativePop CIC... I am a qualified teacher, artist and youth and community worker with a wealth of experience both professionally and creatively. I am also mummy to a wonderful little girl - who enjoys all things creative!

I love East Durham and believe we live in an amazing part of the world with a beautiful coastline, wonderful countryside on our doorsteps and fantastic people... I set up creative Youth Opportunities in 2014 with the aim of bringing arts and creativity to people in their communities and it has grown!

The Creative Place Seaham not only allows me and my small team to have a base, to deliver more of what we love and bring creativity to more people. It also allows us to support other local people on their journeys into enterprise.

Creative Youth Opportunities CIC has now been running over 5 years and in that time we have … brought a large number of community arts events and projects to the people of the North East. We have shown young people that their work can be valued and have seen their work displayed publicly including an exhibition is The Shipley Art gallery alongside Grayson Perry... we have supported 8 young people into training and employment... with two apprentices, a commitment to employing young people on an on-going basis and with two moving on to university! We have worked on arts projects with - Jack Drum Arts, Isis Arts, East Durham Creates, New Writing North, The Shipley Art Gallery, Independent film makers, Popples Tales, Bloom in Art and many more

We continue to aim to support local young people & creative enterprise whilst bringing more and more creative activity to the people of the North East.
