Last Saturday, I watched one of our newer students arrive holding tightly onto their parent’s hand, quietly taking everything in from the doorway. By the end of the morning, they were laughing with their group and asking if they could come back next week.
That’s often how it starts at Theatretrain.
Our Saturday sessions for children aged 4–18 combine singing, dancing and drama in a structured, welcoming environment where children can gradually grow in confidence at their own pace.
Some children arrive ready to jump straight in. Others need a little longer to settle, watch what’s going on and find their feet first. We’re very used to both.
The mornings are busy, creative and full of energy, but children quickly get to know the routine and what to expect. There’s plenty of encouragement along the way, without pressure to be the loudest or most confident person in the room.
Over time, parents often notice small changes happening naturally.
Their child joins in more quickly.
They speak a little more confidently.
They begin to feel part of the group.
A lot of what children gain at Theatretrain happens quietly at first. They learn how to work with others, listen, take direction, support each other and keep going when something feels challenging.
Alongside weekly classes, students also perform in full-scale theatre productions in professional venues, giving them the excitement of working towards something real as part of a team.
For many families, the biggest reassurance comes from seeing how comfortable their child becomes walking through the door each week.
If you’re wondering whether Theatretrain would feel like the right fit for your child, our Parent Guide answers many of the questions parents often ask before booking a taster session — including what happens on a first day, how we support nervous children and what a typical Saturday morning is really like.

Alongside our weekly sessions, we also bring in extra opportunities across the year that give the children something new to stretch into.
That might be a West End–style workshop where they learn choreography at pace, a stage combat session (always a favourite), or additional performance opportunities where they can put their skills into practice in front of an audience.
.
We also run workshops with Goldmans Management, our chosen theatrical agency.
They offer professional insight into how the industry works, guidance around screen acting, and advice on things like headshots and auditions.
For the children who are curious about that world, it’s a brilliant way to understand it properly.
For most, it simply builds confidence and awareness.
For a few, it might spark something bigger.
Either way, they leave knowing more than when they walked in!
