Sense-a-story transform traditional storytelling sessions into immersive multi-sensory experiences. We bring stories to life using all 5 external senses, encouraging children to see, hear, smell, touch and even taste the story!
Every class begins with a welcome song to get everyone ready for what's in store. Then we explore the story (a different one each week) using all five external senses. The sessions feature stimulating visuals, puppets and props, sound effects and musical instruments, natural scents, messy play and natural materials, healthy fruit and veg and lots more! After the story, children can explore any or all parts of the story in free play, allowing them (and you!) to socialise. Finally, we conclude with a goodbye song, allowing children to reflect on what they've experienced throughout the session.
As well as promoting sensory development, and nurturing a love of stories, each class promotes children's creativity and imagination, and aids in strengthening their social, cognitive, language and communication skills.
We are a relaxed and inclusive group. Along with the spoken word, all our stories are signed. Please note: we don't teach sign. We use signing in an effort to be more inclusive of, and accessible to, more children and to add an extra visual element to the story.
Join us for a journey where stories come to life, and little ones can socialise, explore and learn together in a friendly, welcoming environment.

"Always a new story with new, fun interactive activities for my 18 month old to explore. We are into our 2nd block of sense-a-story, and I see my daughter's confidence growing every week. Would certainly recommend giving it a try!"
"We absolutely love Sense-a-Story & Stevie! So much effort goes into each story and my son is engaged throughout the class and loves exploring all his senses with each story!"
"My son loves coming to Sense-a-Story. Stevie's way of incorporating all the senses gets everyone involved and excited about the stories. We love the signing too, it's not like any other class we've been to before."

Meet Stevie Lyon
Hi there, my name is Stevie and I'm the founder of Sense-a-Story. I'm a mum of three and a story lover! As a pupil support assistant, I have ten years' experience supporting children's learning and wellbeing in mainstream and additional support needs schools. My journey to becoming a qualified primary teacher is underway. I achieved a First-class BA (Hons.) Education Studies (Primary) degree in 2023, and I'm currently undertaking my Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary). The learning and experience I've gained through being a mum, working and studying, and my love of reading have all come together and led to the creation of Sense-a-Story.
To put your mind at ease, I'm a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, and a qualified first aider. I've also undertaken training in Food Safety, Allergens and Safeguarding, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all children.
