Description

Aikido is a Japanese martial art suitable for children from ages 8-15yrs old. Classes are based on fitness, exercise, technique and collaboration. There are no contests in Aikido. We do encourage the children to work together and yet challenge each other to develop and progress.

They learn Aikido related skills and develop coordination, movement, strength and technique. The classes are energetic and enjoyable allowing a creative environment.

Meet Cathy Okada

Cathy Okada’s interest in martial arts stems from having practiced Karate as a child and her Japanese heritage. From 2021 through to 2022 she participated in an intensive training programme at Aikido of London under the tutelage of Ismail Hasan Sensei, deepening her practice of Aikido, Weapons and Iaido. Cathy continues to pursue a deeper understanding of these disciplines and has taught both locally and internationally.

Outside of the dojo, she co-created, produces, and hosts the Maai Perspective: Women Talk Budo video podcast series, providing a platform for women in martial arts to lead conversations on Budo and related subjects. Cathy remains committed to her martial arts journey and strives to contribute to the growth of others, having established Gyodokan in 2023, an Ealing- based dojo alongside Ivan Melo, serving as a sister dojo to Aikido of London.

She also teaches every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with Ivan at Gyodokan in West London.
