I am a native British Sign Language user through proudly growing up with my twin sister who is profoundly Deaf. I am moderately Deaf. We used home signs to communicate as children and were introduced into the world of British Sign Language when we were 11 years old. This changed our world of communication forever.

I became a mum to 2 amazing teens Jake, and Summer. Being a signer, I was keen to do signing classes with Jake and so signing classes were a thing we did together. This made me realise the importance of signing with children and ignited my desire to become a signing teacher! My daughter Summer came along and through signing, our communication abilities were astonishing!

Up until I had Summer, I worked in London as a Support Worker for the Deaf and gave up work in London as it was no longer financially viable – a classic scenario many parents face! This is when I come to realise that I could really do something with my sign language abilities and so I began running my classes in Hitchin and Letchworth. I had the joy of having Summer with me at my own classes! She was my little side-kick, enjoying and signing to the songs. They are both still signing now, especially when it comes to spellings from school!

I have been running baby and children's signing classes in Hitchin and Letchworth for 13 years along with running workshops and birthday parties too. I have loved every minute of it. I feel very privileged to give the gift of communication to families. This is why I started The Signing Company

British Sign Language (BSL) is a strong element in our lives, having used it all my life with my twin sister. I am NVQ level 4 (now level 6) in BSL trained.
