‘Creativity is more important than knowledge’

A word from our sponsors to start us off

PotatoPrint.co.uk are incredibly pleased to be involved with Children’s Activities Week 2019 supporting Caudwell Children and the Children’s Activities Association. We are especially pleased to be sponsoring an activity close to our hearts, Art and Creative day!

Arts and crafts can play a vital role in developing skills. Whether it’s painting and drawing, to making models or creating a scrapbook we think it’s a great idea to celebrate children’s art and creativity, which is why we created a range of keepsakes just for this purpose!

PotatoPrint.co.uk loves to encourage arts and crafts with a range of scrapbooks to get the imagination and self-expression going, or involve the kids in choosing photos for photobooks, calendars and gifts, to help with decision making and problem-solving skills.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful arts and crafts challenges throughout the day.

Most children love arts and crafts and it’s a fantastic way for them to express their creativity. However, there are many benefits of arts and crafts that go way beyond this. These include improving coordination, developing fine motor skills and increasing dexterity.

Try out these easy but entertaining art and crafts activities:
•    Vegetable stamping is a classic way to make pretty artwork
•    Create nature pictures using leaves, flowers or blossom that have been picked up when out and about
•    Shaving cream art is cheap, fun and has endless possibilities

Morton Michel are delighted to be a founding member of the Children's Activities Association and recognise the importance that kids' activity providers bring to a child's learning and development. They provide a specialist insurance package tailored to meet the requirements of children's activity providers which includes additional benefits to support their business. Children's Activities Association member, The Creation Station, tells us more

Being involved in creative activities enables your child to explore their ideas, discover their world and develop a wide range of skills.
Here are 9 benefits

1.    Hand & Eye Co-ordination: Learning to develop fine motor skills takes practice. Whether it’s learning to hold a pencil, mark making or scissor skills, creative activities help to develop your child’s proprioceptive input, dexterity and tactility. This also helps your child to compare different materials and helps with their writing skills.

2.    Physical Development: In a world where children are exposed to screens at an increasingly early age, helping your child develop their hand and finger strength is vitally important. When you child creates models, manipulates clay or uses their fingers to make marks, this helps to develop their hand and finger strength. Creative activity also supports developing your child’s movement, balance and spatial awareness.

3.    Sensory Development: Your child makes sense of their world by taking in information from their many senses. Being involved in creative activities helps your child to develop their observation skills, listening to instructions, explore different textures, recognize different smells and gain an understanding of their world.

4.    Logic: Overcoming challenges is part of life’s journey. Creative activities help your child to think, make connections and work things out for themselves. To FAIL is the ‘First Attempt in Learning’ and creative activities provide a wonderful way for your child to think and to try out different solutions to achieve what they want. Activities help your child to sort, organise and analyse information, problem solve, think and make connections.

5.    Communication skills: Creative activities help your child to develop their listening skills, express their feelings, describe their activities and actions, developing their language and their attention to detail.

6.    Concentration: Being creative builds your child’s confidence to try new experiences and activities, builds their persistence and patience and helps them to develop their own ideas. One of your child’s pieces of artwork may look like random scribbles or paint strokes to you, but your child will see something quite different.

7.    Confidence: Developing your child’s own ideas and turning them into something they can hold in their hand, promotes deep pride, satisfaction and self worth. This enables your child to gain confidence in their abilities, also to develop their thinking as they know their ideas are recognised and valued. Exploring different materials, colours and textures supports your child’s confidence around eating healthy foods. This increased confidence can also help with separation and making choices.

8.    Social Skills: Ability to share with others, bonding with each other, relations with others as they learn to share, sharing and making friends and understanding how objects can exist even when out of sight.

9.    Understanding Their World: Creative craft activities help your child’s understanding of the concept of large and small, above and below, hard and soft, wet and dry, etc. Activities help them understand that they can affect their environment and creates awareness of being safe.
