Description

Opening on Tuesday 11 August with a full line-up of uplifting exhibitions,
The Lightbox is excited to once again, welcome its visitors and wonderful community!

The Ingram Collection of Modern British Art takes centre stage. In the Main Gallery, Redressing the Balance: Women Artists from The Ingram Collection (11 August – 20 September 2020) will explore the ideas and narratives behind paintings, sculptures, and performance-based artworks by female artists, as part of an ongoing mission to address the imbalance of female representation in galleries, exhibitions and collections. Key figures in the history of Modern British Art, such as Laura Knight, Barbara Hepworth and Elisabeth Frink, will feature alongside emerging and established contemporary artists including Lucy Gregory, Chloe Wing Chow and Tahmina Negmat.

The Ingram Collection: The Art of Watercolour (11 August – 4 October 2020) will explore the rich source of inspiration that artists have gained from working in the medium of watercolour. Bold experiments, subtle hues and deftness of hand will be reflected through the work of Edward Burra and Eileen Agar on the walls of this Upper Gallery exhibition.

In the Art Fund Prize Gallery, portrait photographer Jo de Magneval captures the essence of this historic and challenging time, through a series of photographs that celebrate families and the windows to their worlds. Stay Home Superheroes by Jo de Magneval (11 August – 27 September 2020) documents each family’s story, bringing the images to life and allowing us all to reflect on what was, and is, important in life.
