Meet Melinda Johnston
Hi my name is Melinda and I help teenagers to learn how to create delicious recipes, without any previous knowledge of cooking, so that they can become competent cooks even if they do not feel confident at the moment.
My original background was in catering; but even though I moved away from the food industry to work in retail management and then administration and training; I have always loved cooking and enjoy creating delicious dishes for friends and family.
Whilst working as a Teaching Assistant at my daughters’ Primary School, I was able to start sharing my culinary skills with the pupils during the weekly cookery challenges. I really enjoyed the afternoons, being able to teach the children how to cook.
At the beginning of 2017, I began to think seriously about the idea of teaching children how to cook on a full time basis. I found Smart Raspberry and I quickly decided to take the plunge and start my own business.
During the covid 19 pandemic I have been running online classes for children including the Teen Food Tech course and holiday workshops. What I love the most about owning the Cookery School is the buzz it gives me teaching young people cookery skills that will last a lifetime. It makes me happy to see the students gain new knowledge and grow in confidence whilst cooking.
