When looking into a class, it’s of course good to know the background of the class leader, so here’s a bit about my own phonics experience:

🔡 I am a mummy to children in Years 1 and 2, so I’m experiencing how the reading scheme and home reading is progressing through the school years. I can relate to the enthusiastic and reluctant readers!

🔡 I volunteer weekly in my daughters’ classes to hear readers, practise high frequency words and phonics boosting activities.

🔡 I occasionally teach in local schools from EYFS to Yr3, to stay up to date with teaching and get to teach all the different phonics schemes.

🔡 I was previously a class teacher for years 1, 2 and 3, teaching daily phonics, running phonics workshops and experienced administering the Phonics Screening Check.

Although my focus running weekly classes is preschool, I find it invaluable to understand the ongoing phonics journey that children go on over the years. It’s amazing how much children can build on a solid phonics foundation and the difference a positive start to phonics can make.
